Russia regularly speaks about the negative attitude and confrontational nature of the so-called EU observation mission in Armenia, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, Report informs.

“The anti-Azerbaijani, anti-Russian, and anti-Iranian objectives of this mission are obvious. Moreover, NATO countries are joining it. It’s clear that this is a geopolitical project used to consolidate the collective West’s presence in the region. Its objectives are well understood by us: destabilization of the situation and using it against the peoples of the South Caucasus region,” she noted.

Zakharova added that nothing should be expected from the EU observation mission except destabilization of the military-political situation and transformation of the South Caucasus region into an arena of geopolitical rivalry.

“The EU mission is a foreign body for the South Caucasus, and all current issues facing the region should be resolved through collective efforts without external interference,” Zakharova said.

The diplomat emphasized that the decision to deploy the EU mission was made without coordination with Azerbaijan: “Why isn’t the opinion of a regional player considered, who is not a mere observer and who has a vital interest in stability?”
