President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic discussed cooperation issues in fighting climate change and matters related to the construction of a gas power plant in Serbia, Report informs.

“I just met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. I express my deep gratitude for his invitation and hospitality. We discussed some important issues regarding COP and began discussions about building a gas-fired power plant in Serbia. Both countries could become shareholders in this gas-fired power plant located in the city of Nis in southern Serbia. If we can realize this, it will be another important step in our close cooperation,” Vucic said in his statement to journalists upon arriving at the climate conference opening.

According to the Serbian leader, this project is quite important for his country. “Azerbaijan is already supplying gas to Serbia. We thank our friends from Azerbaijan for being ready to participate in a new project with us,” he stated.

“Over the past year, we have successfully increased our trade turnover 30-fold compared to five years ago, which is unprecedented. I truly feel at home in Azerbaijan, in Baku, and I hope to visit your country again next summer,” said the Serbian leader.
