Employees at Volkswagen plants across Germany have resumed strikes in protest against the company’s plans to slash production and cut jobs, according to IG Metall, the country’s largest trade union.
Report informs via foreign media that the strikes are set to halt work at nine of the automaker’s factories for four hours per shift.
Last week, around 100,000 Volkswagen employees participated in the first warning strike.
According to sources within the company cited by the newspaper Handelsblatt, Volkswagen lost approximately €40,000 in profit for every minute of downtime at its Wolfsburg, Emden, Hanover, and Zwickau plants during last week’s strikes.
