The National University of Modern Languages in Pakistan hosted a seminar titled “January 20 – Azerbaijan’s Day of Heroism and Pride”.
Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani Embassy in Pakistan, that the event was attended by university professors, students, representatives of Pakistani think tanks, and employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy.
Participants honored the memory of the shehids (martyrs) with a minute of silence, followed by the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Pakistan. A video dedicated to the National Day of Mourning on January 20 was also shown.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, reminded the audience that on the night of January 19-20, 1990, without prior declaration of a state of emergency, the Soviet Army invaded Azerbaijan, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of innocent people. This tragic event, known as Black January or Black Saturday, marked a turning point in Azerbaijan’s struggle for independence from the Soviet Union.
During the seminar, students recited poems dedicated to the January 20 tragedy, paying tribute to the victims who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s freedom and territorial integrity.
