The technical mission of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is visiting Azerbaijan to assess the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29), which will be held in Baku on November 11-22, Report informs, citing the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company (COP29 AOC).
The mission came to Azerbaijan on September 6 and conclude the visit on September 9.
On the first day of the visit, the head of the mission, Director of the Conference Affairs Division of the UNFCCC Wasim Mir met with the Chairperson of the Board, Chief Operating Officer of the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company Narmin Jarchalova.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the status of a number of intensive operational processes in preparation for the prestigious event, the distribution of territory for various purposes and other organizational issues.
Meanwhile, UN Department of Safety and Security representative Kevin O’Hanlon met with representatives of the COP29 AOC and exchanged views on the steps taken to ensure the security of the conference. Then, the members of the mission visited the venue of the event – the Baku Stadium. There they got acquainted with the completed and ongoing construction works and operational processes.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation also took part in a briefing organized by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company for members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan on the preparations for the international climate conference and plans for the event.
During the three-day visit, the mission will continue to meet with the heads of the COP29 AOC structures and various government agencies at the venue of the event to cover all areas of the preparatory process. Besides, they are expected to assess the accommodation, food and transportation options created in the city for the delegates invited to the conference.
