COP29 represents a key opportunity to achieve a fair energy transition and meet the primary needs of developing countries’ residents, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima told Report.
She noted that she believes in achieving progress within COP29 in addressing issues affecting the least developed countries.
“Climate financing is the most important priority. One of the conference’s main goals is providing $100 billion per year in climate aid to countries in need. In Baku, we expect to achieve a new goal for climate financing. Additionally, we support reforms in climate financing architecture. Achieving this is important both for the current situation and for the future,” emphasized Fatima.
The UN under-secretary-general added that another important issue expected to see progress during COP29 is the launch of the International Loss and Damage Fund.
