
“The project ‘Support to increase the capacity of the Azerbaijan Republic Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) for the safe return of internally displaced persons’ is financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with the Azerbaijani government,” Nuno Queiros, the UNDP Resident Representative, said at a conference on demining in Shusha jointly organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the ANAMA on February 7, Report informs.
He said that landmines and other explosive munitions hinder the safe return of IDPs, making it difficult for them to access their homes and agricultural fields, thus depriv them of the opportunity to rebuild their lives: “This is why humanitarian demining is a significant part of UNDP’s development efforts in Azerbaijan and one of the main priorities we share and work on with the government.
