Transforming Azerbaijan into a green development country is one of the main goals, said Ulvi Mehdiyev, chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan (ASAN Service), Report informs.

Mehdiyev made the remark at the Green Advanced Governance Ministerial Forum organized by ASAN service.

“Today, different nations from all over the world have come together to solve the current environmental problems,” Mehdiyev said. “In the document ‘Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development,’ creating a clean environment and transforming Azerbaijan into a green development country is one of the main goals.”

The chairman noted that Azerbaijan’s efforts towards sustainable development have accelerated since its presidency of COP29. He added that the government’s designation of 2024 as the Green World Solidarity Year and hosting COP29 emphasizes the country’s commitment to this cause.

Mehdiyev expressed that this event, attended by representatives of various nations, promises to be a crucial stage for COP29. “Building on the progress made at COP28, this year’s conference has the potential to achieve significant results, including putting forward concrete, time-bound commitments to reduce emissions and increasing transparency in climate financing and implementation,” he added.
