The soon-to-be 47th president, who will be sworn in on Monday, voiced interest in traveling to China within his first 100 days in office, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the discussions.

Trump and Xi, through their representatives, have discussed meeting in person, with one option including the president-elect inviting the Chinese leader to the US, the outlet reported.

Trump, 78, and Xi spoke by phone on Friday for the first time since his historic victory in November, discussing ways in which their nations could cooperate on trade, fentanyl, TikTok and other issues.

“I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China,” Trump posted on his Truth Social. “The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately.”

“We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects,” the once and future president said.

“President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe.”

During his 2024 campaign, Trump called for a universal tariff of 10% to 20% on all imports into the United States from all countries — but threatened an import levy as high as 100% on BRICS alliance countries like Russia and China if they undermine the US dollar.
