US President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, Mike Waltz, started a major reshuffle of the National Security Council, sidelining about 160 of its staffers, The Associated Press reported, citing sources, Report informs via TASS.

The career government employees were told to work from home while the administration reviews staffing, according to the report.

“It is entirely appropriate for Mr. Waltz to ensure NSC personnel are committed to implementing President Trump’s America First agenda to protect our national security and wisely use the tax dollars of America’s working men and women,” White House National Security Council Spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement.

The reshuffle, which includes sending employees back to their home agencies, is meant to build a more “efficient, flatter” NSC, one official told the AP. The move largely affects experts who had been on loan to the agency from the State Department, FBI and CIA, whose temporary duty typically lasts one to two years.
