Zelensky: I Told Trump That Putin Is a Liar and Cannot Be Trusted

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he does not believe in the alleged willingness of Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin to seek “peace” and conveyed this to Donald Trump during their conversation on February 12.

He made this statement on February 14 during the Strategic Investment: The Future of U.S. – Ukraine Security Cooperation panel at the Munich Security Conference, as reported by European Pravda.

Zelensky noted that there are no risks for Trump in speaking with Putin because he is stronger than the Russian leader. However, “I believe there are risks for the whole world,” he added.
“Because… we face far greater risks than the U.S. With all due respect to the ‘grown-up guys,'” he remarked.

The head of state emphasized that he has already had several phone conversations with U.S. president, including the call on February 12.
“He told me, ‘I think Putin wants to resolve the war.’ I told him that he is a liar—you can count on that. I hope you will put pressure on him because I do not believe him,” Zelensky recounted.

He reminded that he had already negotiated a “ceasefire” with the Kremlin dictator when he was elected in 2019, yet those agreements were never implemented.
“What is important is not to make decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine. This is a fundamental position. And I mean all our people,” Zelensky stressed.

It should be recalled that on the evening of February 12, Donald Trump spoke with the Kremlin leader and stated that he and Putin plan to meet. Afterward, Trump called Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Axios, after Zelensky delivered his warning to Trump that “Putin told you he wants a deal only because he is afraid of you, because you are strong,” Trump acknowledged that this might be the case but believed Putin was serious about the prospects for peace, according to two sources. “We will know soon,” Trump concluded. At the end of their conversation, may be ‘as an award’ Trump gave Zelensky his personal number and said he could contact him directly.

Earlier, Zelensky stated that if the U.S. and Russia negotiate a settlement of the war without Ukraine’s participation, Ukraine will not accept the outcome.
