The future of the Syrian army remains unclear and will depend on decisions made by its new leadership, according to Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali.

Report informs that in an interview with Sky News Arabia, al-Jalali stated, “I have no answer to [the question] about the fate of the Syrian army. It will depend on who takes over the command.”

Commenting on the current situation, the prime minister emphasized that strengthening security in the republic is the top priority, adding that “the Syrian people are tired after the recent years.”

On November 27, armed opposition factions launched a large-scale offensive against Syrian army positions in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By the evening of December 7, they had captured several major cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, and Homs. On December 8, rebel forces entered Damascus as Syrian government troops withdrew from the capital. Prime Minister al-Jalali expressed his willingness to peacefully transfer power in the republic.
