Sweden provides Moldova with support worth 8.7 million euros through the energy vulnerability reduction fund, Minister for Foreign Trade and International Development Cooperation of Sweden Benjamin Dousa said, Report informs via Moldpres.

He made the statements at a joint news conference with Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi in Chisinau.

The Swedish official stressed that the assistance would be provided for backing the most vulnerable families, in order to cope with the energy crisis. The budgetary support comes besides the assistance of the European Union, provided this year.

“I am impressed by Moldova’s resistance and determination on this complicated period. At the beginning of this year, Russia showed us how it attempted to destabilize the country through the creation of an energy crisis. I want to assure Moldova’s citizens that Sweden and the EU will continue to support you and stand with you. The present energy crisis reveals who are your true friends. I assure you that Sweden is a true friend and a long-lasting partner of Moldova. We will do our utmost to help the people of Moldova,” Benjamin Dousa said.

Mihai Popsoi, in turn, thanked the Swedish partners for this important commitment, stressing that the financial support would significantly contribute to the protection of the citizens against the energy challenges.

“I want to emphasize, in particular, the generous support provided by Sweden to Moldova’s citizens on complicated periods for our country. I mean the successive crises, including the crisis which we face at present,” Mihai Pospoi noted.

Besides this direct support, the discussions focused on Sweden’s support for Moldova’s path to European integration, its firm commitment to the accession process, and its contribution to the implementation of reforms.
