The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has rejected the US calls for direct talks as unwise and futile for solving the country’s problems, Report informs via Mehr News Agency.
The supreme leader received a group of commanders of the Iranian Air Force and Air Defense for a meeting on Friday. The meeting took place to mark the anniversary of the historic meeting of the Shah’s air force commanders on February 8, 1979, with Imam Khomeini pledging their allegiance to him and the revolution.
At the start of his address to the meeting, Khamenei rejected talks with Washington as not in the interest of the Iranian nation: “Negotiations with the US will have no impact on solving the country’s problems.”
“Iran negotiated with the US several years ago, and a deal was reached, but Americans tore it up” Khamenei noted, adding that ” We made lots of concessions, but Americans failed to hold up their end of the bargain.”
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to stress that the solution to the problems is inside the country, saying that with reliance on domestic resources, the problems could be solved.
