During the Armenian occupation, illegal repair and restoration works were carried out in the Ganjasar monastery, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan’s State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture.

“The famous Ganjasar monastery, built on a mountain in Vangli village of Kalbajar district, on the left bank of the Khachin river, is one of the most prominent monuments of Christian architecture of Caucasian Albania. It is known from the inscriptions on the wall of the monastery that this monument was built by Hasan Jalal Dovlani and his mother Orisha Khatun in 1216-1238.

“However, during the occupation, the monument was subjected to Armenian vandalism. Contrary to the norms and principles of international law, the occupying country carried out illegal repair and restoration works on the architectural monument,” State Service said.
