Scientists have discovered that the comet C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) has been fading in brightness in the past few days as it approaches the sun, sparking concerns that it could be disintegrating, Report says, citing the official website of ANAS.

Although experts have so far seen an increase in its brightness, they have found that since April 3, the light has decreased. However, observations conducted in the last few days have indicated the comet may be in trouble on its journey towards our star. Somewhat dashing hopes that it might be visible with the naked eye from Earth’s Northern Hemisphere by the second half of May.

Astronomers believe that the comet’s nucleus will continue to disintegrate, further reducing its brightness.
