
The Russian Information and Cultural Center (Russian House) in Baku is vacating its premises in the center of the Azerbaijani capital, according to a representative of the Russian House, Report informs via TASS.
“The signboard has been completely removed from the building (previously only the Russian language text was removed),” he said.
From the outside through the windows, one can see that paintings, posters and announcements, souvenirs on shelves have been removed from the walls in the foyer and hall where the organization’s events used to take place, and the mobile exhibition has been dismantled.
Earlier Azerbaijan reported the lack of registration as a legal entity of the Russian Information and Cultural Center (Russian House), the representative office of “Rossotrudnichestvo” in Azerbaijan, and serious violations of Azerbaijani legislation by the organization.
Following this, Baku sent a note to the Russian side on February 3 about the termination of the Russian House activities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement indicates that the activities of such organizations in Azerbaijan are regulated in accordance with national legislation, the principle of reciprocity between countries, and requirements to comply with agreements reached on a bilateral basis. Based on the Azerbaijani side’s decision to terminate the activities of the Russian House in the country, it is expected that the Russian side will take appropriate measures in this direction.
