Russia Warns Armenia Against Following Ukraine’s Path
Russia issued a stark warning to Armenia on Wednesday, cautioning against following a path similar to that of Ukraine. Speaking to the press, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, emphasized the strong bond between the two countries while expressing hope that Armenia would avoid the course taken by Kyiv.
“Armenia is a sovereign country that chooses its own priority areas of interaction,” Peskov stated, underscoring Yerevan’s independence in making strategic decisions. “At the same time, for Russia, Armenia remains our ally, a brotherly country.”
The Kremlin spokesperson’s remarks come amid increasing geopolitical tensions and a backdrop of historical alliances and regional complexities. Peskov reiterated Russia’s respect for Armenia’s search for its own path but warned against emulating the trajectory of the Ukrainian government.
“We respect such searches, but only we would not want these searches to be carried out in the regime that the Kyiv regime once chose,” Peskov added, referencing the significant political and military fallout from Ukraine’s pivot towards Western alliances and away from Russian influence.
