A reconnaissance is in progress in the exercise area Gorokhovetsky in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast as part of preparations for the Belarus-Russian tactical army exercise Union Shield 2019, according to BelTA.
The reconnaissance is supposed to ascertain the areas where practical actions will take place and troops will be deployed during the forthcoming exercise. Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major-General Pavel Muraveiko is in charge of the reconnaissance on behalf of the Belarusian side.
The army exercise Union Shield 2019 represents the final stage in a two-year cycle of joint combat training of Belarus and Russian army units. In line with the decision made by the Belarus and Russian heads of state the exercise is held every two years interchangeably in Belarus or Russia. This year’s army exercise Union Shield will take place in Russia on 13-19 September.
