An Iranian court has sentenced popular pop performer Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, better known by his stage name Tataloo, to death.
According to Report, citing local media, the musician was found guilty of blasphemy, specifically for insulting and denying the status of Prophet Muhammad.
Tataloo gained fame for his outspoken views and is popular among Iranian youth.
Previously, Tataloo supported President Ebrahim Raisi during the 2017 election campaign. He also publicly expressed support for the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency, even performing a song titled “Nuclear Energy.”
Despite his political activity, Tataloo’s appearance and behavior drew criticism from some conservative factions. The singer soon left Iran and moved to Türkiye.
Four years ago, he was detained by Turkish police and sent back to Iran, where he was imprisoned. Initially, the 37-year-old artist was sentenced to five years in prison, but the prosecutor filed an appeal. The case was subsequently reopened.
