Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is planning to ask US President Donald Trump to visit Japan this year when they hold a summit in Washington later this week, Japanese government sources said, Report informs via Kyodo News.

Ishiba is also expected to reaffirm with Trump the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as past Japanese and US leaders have done, during their planned talks on Friday as part of a three-day visit to the United States starting Thursday, the sources said.

It will be the first in-person meeting between the two after Ishiba took office in October and Trump was sworn in for his second nonconsecutive four-year term last month.
