Iran Vows Retaliation After Assassination of Palestinian Leader Ismail Haniyeh

Iranian president Massoud Pezeshkian has issued a strong response following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of Hamas, in Tehran. The announcement, made on the X social media platform on Wednesday morning, emphasizes Iran’s commitment to retaliation and strengthening ties with Palestine.

“Yesterday I raised his victorious hand and today I have to carry his coffin on my shoulders,” Pezeshkian wrote, expressing both personal sorrow and national resolve.

He stressed that the bond between Iran and Palestine would only grow stronger in the wake of this incident. “The bond between the two proud nations of Iran and Palestine will be stronger than before, and the path of resistance and defense of the oppressed will be followed stronger than ever,” he declared.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred after their residence in Tehran was targeted. Pezeshkian vowed that Iran would defend its territorial integrity and honor, promising to make the “terrorist occupiers regret their cowardly action.”

As the investigation into the assassination continues, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan’ani stated that relevant institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran are thoroughly examining the details of the incident.

Mousa Abu Marzook, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau, also vowed that the “cowardly assassination” of Haniyeh would not go unanswered, indicating potential further escalations.
