The commitments to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030 are not just a benchmark, but the main pillar of collective commitments to achieve the 1.5-degree goal, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said at a panel session on the second day of Pre-COP29 in Baku.

According to Report, he noted that last year, the capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan increased by 373.6 megawatts.

“The creation of ‘green’ energy zones in Karabakh, Eastern Zangazur, and Nakhchivan has become the basis for a nationwide transition to ‘net zero’. By 2030, we plan to implement 7 gigawatts of ‘green’ energy, 70% of which will be exported,” he said.

Shahbazov emphasized that Azerbaijan is one of the initiators of three “green” corridor projects, including the Black Sea Energy underwater electric cable project.

“These green energy corridors will make a significant contribution to the ‘green’ energy transition in a wider geography – from Central Asia to Europe,” he said.
