Indian authorities are violating the rights of the Muslim majority in the Jammu and Kashmir region, trying to turn them into a minority, and the international community should not remain indifferent, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin said at an event marking Kashmir Solidarity Day in Baku, Report informs.

At the event held at the Pakistani Embassy in Azerbaijan, the ambassador reminded that on August 5, 2019, the Indian government announced the abolition of Article 370 of the constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir state. After this, cases of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir increased, he added.

Indian occupation forces continue to use brute force indiscriminately against Kashmiri civilian population including men, women, children and the elderly. The incessant killing spree, arbitrary arrests of Kashmiri youth and rape of Kashmiri women by the occupying Indian forces is a matter of grave concern for the people across the world. It is deplorable to see the whole Indian state machinery being involved in these unspeakable crimes against humanity,” he said.

“India’s actions are aimed at converting the Muslim majority in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir into a minority in their own land. The pattern of ongoing atrocities in Jammu and Kashmir reflects the extremist ideology of the current Indian government against religious minorities especially Muslims.

It is important that the world community continues to stand with the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir till India lets the Kashmiris exercise their right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

The cruelty that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir are facing is the same as our brothers and sisters of Azerbaijan faced during Armenia’s occupation of Karabakh.

The Government of Pakistan and the Kashmiri people remain thankful to the brotherly people and the Government of Azerbaijan for their continued and just support on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
