On November 12, the opening ceremony of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in Baku.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed heads of state and government, as well as leaders of delegations participating in the Summit.

A special video message from NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station was presented at the Summit.

According to the training plan for 2024, a tactical-special exercise was conducted with the commando units, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense said.

In accordance with the exercise’s scenario, the tasks of conducting a sudden attack on the positions of an imaginary enemy and taking positions were fulfilled.

The captured positions’ areas were assessed tactically and visually, after which a sudden attack supported by a mortar fire was conducted.

During the tactical-special exercise, the commandos accurately fulfilled fire tasks and demonstrated high professionalism.

In accordance with the training plan of the Azerbaijani Combined Arms Army for 2024, the subsequent command-staff exercise was carried out, citing the Defense Ministry.

The units involved in the exercise were deployed to the training areas on alert, where their maneuver capabilities, as well as the operational command and control skills of the commanders and staffs, were evaluated under operational conditions.

In the exercise conducted under conditions simulating real combat, the rocket and artillery units successfully destroyed the designated and unforeseen targets of the imaginary enemy by targeted fire.

The tasks set in the command-staff exercise were fully completed.

According to the training plan for 2024, special tactical exercises involving various units were conducted in one of the military units.

The units were put on alert and withdrawn to the training areas.  After tasks were clarified, measures were taken to bring the units to various states of combat readiness, citing the Defense Ministry.

The imaginary enemy’s combat positions and strategic facilities were destroyed by accurate fire from artillery installations of various calibers. Moreover, combat tasks were fulfilled in mountainous and wooded areas with difficult terrain to suppress the enemy’s sabotage activities.

The units demonstrated high professionalism at tactical-special exercises conducted to improve the combat skills of servicemen.

The construction of the Sugovushan-Sarsang Reservoir-Gozlukorpu-Kalbajar is progressing as part of the road infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, Report informs, citing the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.

The highway will span 80 km, with a 15-meter wide roadbed, and is being built as a Category II road with two traffic lanes. Currently, earthwork is underway on the highway. Special equipment is being used to remove unsuitable soil and replace it with suitable material to reach the standard height, with efforts to widen and profile the road.

In areas with difficult terrain, particularly mountainous regions, mechanical cutting of rock formations is being employed to widen the roadbed. Along the newly constructed road, circular pipes and rectangular water crossings of various diameters are being installed to ensure proper water passage as per the project requirements. The project also involves the construction of bridges and retaining walls where necessary.

The necessary workforce and equipment have been deployed to ensure the timely completion of the construction work.

The Sugovushan-Sarsang Reservoir-Gozlukorpu-Kalbajar highway is regarded as a significant road infrastructure project in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions, playing a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the liberated territories.

Aircraft of the Azerbaijan Air Force carried out training flights in accordance with training plan for 2024, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

First, the pilots’ theoretical knowledge about the training flight conditions was assessed, and military personnel was informed about safety rules.

Following the health assessments of the flight crews, the military pilots conducted a control inspection of the Su-25 and Su-25ML attack aircraft.

According to the plan, tasks on takeoff and landing, working out elements of difficult pilotage at various altitudes, determining the coordinates of imaginary enemy’s ground targets, conducting aerial reconnaissance and other training tasks were accomplished.

The primary objective of training flights is to enhance the combat skills of military personnel.

Military pilots carried out the assigned tasks with high accuracy and professionalism.

Azerbaijan’s Report News Agency and Prince Sultan University’s Center for Sustainability and Climate (CSC) (Saudi Arabia) are expanding cooperation within the memorandum signed this year, Report informs.

The joint work ahead of the conferences of the parties to the three Rio Conventions—on Biodiversity, Climate Change and Desertification, which are being held this year, covers several key areas: conducting thematic studies on sustainable development goals, preparing joint reports on climate achievements in the Middle East and North Africa, developing environmental education, and forming new partnerships.

In an interview with BakuTV, the founder of the Center for Sustainability and Climate, Professor Mohammad Nurunnabi, who oversees the Saudi green initiative, shared details of the partnership and discussed the Center’s strategic role in implementing climate programs.

“In cooperation with Report, we organized several events on the theme ‘In Solidarity for a Green World,’ as stated in the COP29 motto. Through this partnership, we are delving deeper into sustainability and climate issues within the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia. Our initiatives include conferences, webinars, and other events aimed at promoting climate action,” he noted.

According to Nurunnabi, the Middle East Green Initiative and 77 projects under the Saudi Green Initiative are integral parts of efforts to combat climate change.

“Cooperation between Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and other countries is crucial in achieving sustainable development for the planet. I believe that through these platforms, we can achieve significant changes. The experience of participating in the conference in Azerbaijan was incredibly valuable. The people, city, and country are wonderful. It is a great honor for me to participate in COP29 – an event that will become a landmark for the country’s and region’s contribution to sustainable development and fighting climate change,” the head of the center added.

Istanbul has hosted the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Brotherhood Forum, Report informs via Haber Global.
