Nobel laureates will receive their awards in their home countries in December because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nobel Foundation said on Thursday, Report informs.

“The laureates will receive their Nobel Prize medals and diplomas in their home countries. Hopefully the ceremony will have a local audience present,” the organizers said in a statement.

“Uncertainty about the course of the pandemic and international travel possibilities is the reason why the 2021 laureates will receive their medals and diplomas in their home countries,” Nobel Foundation Executive Director Vidar Helgesen specified.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is still keeping open the possibility to welcome laureates in Oslo, the decision will be announced in mid-October, the foundation added.
