Armenia and the Netherlands have signed a declaration on strategic cooperation. The document was signed within the framework of the visit by the Dutch foreign minister to Yerevan.
As Armenian foreign minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at Wednesday’s joint press conference, the aforesaid document covers many domains, including the strengthening of political and economic ties, developing of infrastructure, cooperation in cybersecurity, including the fight against hybrid threats, the rule of law and, no less importantly, people-to-people contacts.
The declaration will be made public.
Also, assistance was noted for efforts to establish peace and stability in the South Caucasus—and based on the principle of sovereignty of countries, the inviolability of borders, and the non-use of force.
According to Dutch foreign minister Caspar Veldkamp, however, this document does not imply cooperation in the military sector, especially in the supply of weapons. This strategic partnership is not directed against anyone, neither against Azerbaijan nor against Turkey, the Dutch FM said.
According to the Veldkamp, the signing of such a document is a significant event for the Netherlands, and it reflects his country’s stance towards Armenia. Also, the FM announced the imminent opening of a Dutch embassy in Yerevan.
