Addressing the annual general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly at the level of heads of state and government, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as the leader of the victorious country, delivered some important messages to the world and the international community, said Hikmet Babaoglu, deputy chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption.

He said that in the first place, the head of state touched upon the problems of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is currently the world’s most pressing issue, and Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the World Health Organization in assisting poor countries that face difficulties in obtaining vaccines:

“At the same time, as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement of Azerbaijan, Aliyev noted that a special meeting of the UNGA was convened at the initiative of this international organization to take essential measures to eliminate the pandemic and 150 countries participated in it. The main content of the President’s speech was our historic victory, the decisive steps taken by Azerbaijan, the failure of international organizations to implement their resolutions, and the fact that Armenia, which occupied our lands for 30 years, still does not renounce its fascist ideology and remains a threat to peace in the region. Ilham Aliyev also put forward important initiatives and proposals in this direction, emphasizing the significance of establishing a mechanism for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions in the future. This was, in fact, an expression of the need for reform in the UN and its relevant structures.”

Babaoglu said that another important issue was stressing the importance for the international community to exert pressure on Armenia for signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan in order to establish lasting peace in the region:
