During his speech at the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit in Bishkek, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for the upcoming COP29 Global Summit in Baku, set to commence next week.
According to Report, Mirziyoyev emphasized the necessity of expediting the establishment of the Turkic Environmental Council at the ministerial level to seek solutions to pressing ecological issues related to climate change. He expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to host the council’s first meeting next year.
Furthermore, the Uzbek leader proposed the development of a Concept for the Digital Turkic World, aimed at widespread adoption of the economy of the future. This concept would facilitate mutual exchange of best practices and achievements in the IT sphere among member states, as well as the creation of digital systems for innovation, infrastructure, science, and large data centers.
Mirziyoyev also highlighted the low level of internal mutual trade within the OTS compared to the foreign trade turnover of member states. He called for a radical change in this direction, stressing the need to develop specific agreements and arrangements to eliminate tariff and non-tariff barriers, simplify trade and customs procedures, and develop electronic trading platforms.
The Uzbek leader suggested organizing a forum of leading national analytical centers in Tashkent in the near future to conduct in-depth research aimed at expanding the trade potential among member states.
