Lavrov Mocks Macron’s Idea of Protecting Everyone with “Three or Four Nuclear Warheads”
French President Emmanuel Macron’s intention to protect everyone with “three or four nuclear warheads” is amusing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with American bloggers Mario Nawfal, Larry Johnson, and Andrew Napolitano.
“It was quite a funny speech from Macron (which, by the way, also concerned NATO) because he claimed that France would be able to ‘protect’ everyone with its three or four nuclear warheads,” Lavrov remarked.
According to Lavrov, the French leader is currently trying to portray the situation as if Russian President Vladimir Putin was unwilling to implement the 2015 Minsk Agreements.
On March 5, Macron announced that he would begin discussions with allies on the possibility of bringing European countries under the protection of France’s nuclear deterrence, responding to a proposal by German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz. Macron added that France’s nuclear arsenal has “preserved peace and security in Europe since 1964.”
Later, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Poland should seek to acquire nuclear weapons, including through participation in France’s “nuclear umbrella” program.
Previously, Marine Le Pen accused Macron of posturing following his remarks about the threat of a Russian attack.
