Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has stated that the proposed Zangezur corridor, which would connect Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan through Armenia, is detrimental to Armenia and reiterated Iran’s firm opposition to the plan.
Khamenei made these remarks during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. “Iranian Armenians played a crucial role during the Iran-Iraq war, and I have personally visited many Armenian families in Iran,” Khamenei highlighted.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei emphasized that the territorial integrity of Armenia is crucial for Iran, and the Islamic Republic will continue to uphold this position. The Supreme Leader also spoke out against foreign interference in regional affairs. He believes that the security and prosperity of nations should be maintained through reliance on their own capabilities and support from their friends.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, reiterated that Yerevan has repeatedly stated the unacceptability of extraterritorial routes through Armenia.
Pashinyan was in Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian.
