Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang, during the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29, Report informs referring to the Foreign Ministry’s press service.
The meeting discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, as well as matters related to our country’s presidency of COP29.
It was noted that the impacts of climate change on our region and the world are being closely monitored by Azerbaijan, and the country is implementing a green energy transition approach at the national level, while also promoting multilateralism in addressing existing challenges at regional and global levels.
Various regional and international projects and initiatives implemented by Azerbaijan were discussed, and it was noted that today, within the COP29, a “Strategic Partnership Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on green energy development and transfer” was signed.
Discussing Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency and negotiation process in detail, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that as a result of Baku’s active efforts in promoting climate financing, important progress was achieved in transitioning to a new financial structure with the participation of international financial organizations.
President Philemon Yang congratulated Azerbaijan on its COP29 presidency and thanked for the high level of session organization. It was noted that the UN attaches special importance to combating climate change and is always ready to support efforts in this area.
