Elgun Ibrahimov, who quit abruptly as Director of News Department at Public TV (ITV) yesterday, has today revealed details of his forced resignation.
He previously said he was put under pressure to submit a resignation in the absence of the director general who is the person to legally fire and hire department directors.
In an interview with AzNews, the former director, who led the largest department of the public television disclosed some facts concerning what he calls “coup”.
According to him, he was marginalized and cornered by AzTV [state TV] management although public TV is [supposed to be] independent.
“There is a need for a wise and far-sighted decision on the issue. My career and TV’s reputation should not be a sacrifice because of the insidious maneuvers by Elsever Dunyamaliyev, deputy chairman of AzTV. His primitive moves to gain influence and control on ITV have been on for a long time.
He couldn’t ingest it and slithered abruptly to remove me as I have rejected his “cooperation” offers against IT leadership and principles after his unsucessful attempts for over two months to break my resistance. As long as there are ways to solve such issues, there should be strong will from above to abondon the current “turn-a-blind-eye” practice.”
He also urged AzTV and ITV leaderships to take immediate steps to remedy the situation.
At the end of the interview, Elgun Ibrahimov mentioned one more disclosure without elaboration .
“When I left my office, I laid some coins on my desk. For those who are there for money”.
