“Important achievements have been made in combating smuggling,” said Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, Colonel-General Safar Mehdiyev as he met with UN Resident Coordinator in the country Vladanka Andreeva.

Safar Mehdiyev hailed the long-term, fruitful relations between the UN and the Committee. Mehdiyev highlighted the reforms implemented in the country’s customs system under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. He also expressed hope that Vladanka Andreeva would make a contribution to the development of cooperation between the UN and the State Customs Committee.

UN Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva spoke about the development trends of the customs authorities of independent Azerbaijan and the achievements in the field of information technologies. She hailed the work of the country’s customs authorities in combating drug trafficking.

The sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
