Greece will command the European Union’s new naval mission in the Red Sea, Report informs via Spain’s El Pais.

A Greek commander will take charge of Operation Aspides (Shields), aimed at protecting European ships in the Red Sea. The mission’s operational headquarters will be located on board the Italian ship.

According to the newspaper, the foreign ministers of EU member states will approve on February 19 the launch of an operation for a period of one year, which will involve four frigates.
