Discussions have begun in the Georgian Parliament regarding significant amendments to the Criminal and Administrative Offenses Codes, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party and leader of the parliamentary majority, told Report.
Mdinaradze stated that holding protests in enclosed spaces without a prior consent of the property owner will be prohibited. Additionally, fines and administrative detention periods will be increased for minor hooliganism, disobeying police, blocking court entrances, and other administrative violations. The administrative detention period will be extended to up to 60 days.
“One of the main changes to the Criminal Code is the toughening of punishments for those who call for violent actions and resist police. Prison sentences for threats and violence against police and government officials will be increased from five to six years,” he noted.
