A meeting was held between Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Report informs, citing MFA.
It was stated that during the meeting, the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-UN relations, preparation processes for COP29, and priorities of Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency were discussed.
The UN deputy secretary-general, highlighting the importance of Azerbaijan’s role in multilateral diplomacy and UN institutions, highly appreciated the country’s activities in organizing COP29. Additionally, the importance of the final document adopted during the Summit of the Future, which reflects elements such as peace and security, new technologies, and future financial architecture, was emphasized.
The parties then reviewed Azerbaijan’s achievements in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, noting with satisfaction the significant progress in this work.
Bayramov provided detailed information about the negotiation process within COP29, which Azerbaijan chairs, emphasizing the importance of consensus in determining a new quantitative financial target to meet the required funds for combating climate change. The parties emphasized the importance of support from the UN and international financial institutions in this regard. At the same time, information was provided about support for 14 initiatives put forward by the COP29 presidency in various areas.
The meeting also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
