Finland has not reached a decision regarding the deployment of peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, stated Finland’s Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen during a broadcast on Yle TV1, Report informs.

“Finland is a small frontline country, and that’s exactly why we are thinking very carefully about this issue. However, it’s too early to make an assessment in the current situation. We haven’t made any decisions. This discussion is still in its early stages,” he noted.

Hakkanen emphasized that sending peacekeepers to Ukraine is not akin to “an operation in a distant developing country,” but rather aims to create a “deterrent factor”.

Previously, media outlets stated that several European Union countries are covertly developing a plan to send troops to Ukraine to help implement a future peace agreement with Russia. This issue was also discussed at an emergency summit convened by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
