“We are still discussing Georgia. All of this is embarrassing for me,” said European Parliament member Danilo Della Valle during discussions about Georgia, Report informs.
Della Valle criticized European “elites” for continuing to discuss the results of parliamentary elections in Georgia. He noted that the OSCE confirmed the elections were conducted properly: “Some Western circles are still trying to interfere with the process, even going as far as giving legitimacy to a president who is no longer legally in office. This is unacceptable.”
He argued that topics related to democracy and human rights are often used to pressure countries that don’t align with Western interests:
“This should remain in the past, and the European Union should adopt a new approach. I imagine that future generations will carefully examine the activities of the European Parliament and question decisions made here while the West was descending into chaos. We are still discussing Georgia, while this assembly hasn’t found time for years to express its position regarding the Palestinian population living in inhumane conditions. All of this is embarrassing for me. We must preserve the trust of European citizens and approach global problems fairly.”
