Military spending by EU countries increased by 6% in 2022 and amounted to a record 240 billion euros, according to the European Defense Agency, Report informs referring to TASS.

It was noted that 20 of the 27 EU countries increased defense spending, six of them increased military spending by more than 10%.

The record holders were Sweden, awaiting admission to NATO, with an increase of 30.1%, Luxembourg with an increase of 27.9%, Lithuania with 27.6%, Spain with 19.3%, Belgium with 14.8% and Greece with 13.3%.

Almost one sixth of all military spending – 58 billion euros – are aimed at acquiring new types of weapons.
