Denmark is exploring ways to limit the so-called “shadow fleet” of tankers carrying Russian oil through the Baltic Sea, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said, Report informs via Reuters.

While not specifying the exact measures under consideration, Rasmussen expressed Denmark’s concern that aging tankers transporting oil through its straits pose a potential threat to the environment.

In an effort to find a solution, Denmark has assembled a group of allied countries from the European Union (EU) to assess possible actions.

“There is a broad consensus that the shadow fleet is an international problem and that international solutions are needed. It is important that any new measures can be implemented in practice and that they are legally justified from the point of view of international law,” Rasmussen explained.
