Azerbaijani MP hails laudable measure of gender balance in COP29

The decision to ensure gender balance in the Organizing Committee of COP29 was a noteworthy and laudable move, Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov told Report.

The MP stressed that hosting such a significant and grand event is a historic achievement for Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan is getting ready to welcome a major event, and the world is following the preparations with keen interest. The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place in Baku at a high standard. The Organizing Committee of COP29 has been established already. The equal participation of women and men in the committee, ensuring gender balance, is a laudable measure,” he said.

Mammadov also noted that gender issues are widely debated in global politics: “Empowering women, especially in social and political matters, and listening to their views are welcomed. As Azerbaijan aims to organize the event in line with international norms, it also gives special attention to the promotion of gender equality. A working group was set up in the Organizing Committee of COP29. The fact that our state takes this issue seriously and handles it with care and sensitivity gives assurance that COP29 will be a success. Azerbaijan will host the event at the highest level and accomplish all objectives.”
