Azerbaijan’s Permanent Mission to the OSCE organized a side event titled “COP29: Promoting Solidarity and Unity in Combating Climate Change Challenges through Enhancing Ambition and Encouraging Action” within the framework of the 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague.

According to Report, the event was moderated by Florian Raunig, Chair of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee and Austria’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE. Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Lead Negotiator for COP29, participated and delivered a speech at the event.

Deputy Minister Rafiyev highlighted the global negative impacts of climate change and noted that Azerbaijan will host the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November this year. He provided information on the current status of the negotiation process in preparation for COP29, the 14 initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan and the work carried out to promote them, as well as Azerbaijan’s energy transition and climate policy.

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan promotes inclusivity and cooperation in combating climate change, he stated that the COP29 Presidency is in close contact with many partners.

OSCE representative Jusupov referred to the fact that the topic of climate change is at the center of OSCE’s attention and that there are a number of commitments in this direction. He provided information on the activities carried out by the Organization in this regard and discussed the OSCE’s plans to participate in COP29.

During the event, the views of OSCE participating States were heard, and their questions were answered. Participants emphasized the importance of the contribution made by Azerbaijan’s Presidency to expanding cooperation between countries, building trust, and increasing global efforts in combating climate change, and wished success to Azerbaijan in this endeavor.
