Abdu-Rauf Moustafa, representative of the Organization for the Defense of Sovereignty and Integrity of the Comoros Islands, has called for the formation of new Pan-Africanism.
Report informs that Moustafa voiced the call during the session “Decolonization Process of Reunion within International Law” at the conference “Independence of Reunion: A Look at France’s Colonial Heritage and Path to Sovereignty” held in Baku on January 21.
Moustafa stated that peoples under French colonialism are united by the same pain:
“The Indian Ocean, Comorian people, and others are still suffering from the difficult situation created by France. Our main goal is the liberation of Mayotte and the Comoros Islands. We must conduct our struggle in a broader form.”
Romaine Katambara, chairman of the Ka Ubuntu Independence Movement, spoke about the importance of Reunion’s decolonization within international law:
“This process is very important for us. One of the main goals is to achieve permanent independence. Today we are fighting against hegemonic states. We want to achieve independence. We can achieve independence practically by combining cultural, political, and military forces with regional countries. This is also important for us in the struggle against the West.”
Konat Musa, representative of Burkina Faso and director of BACIDE research bureau, emphasized that it’s time to change the world order:
“The world community should come together on the issue of colonialism.”
Political scientist Ilyas Huseynov said that France is not ready for new geopolitical realities:
“Local peoples should utilize the resources of colonial territories. However, processes that damage people’s welfare are being carried out in those territories.”
