The French overseas territory of New Caledonia witnessed a resurgence of clashes between protesters and police on Sunday night.

According to Report, which cites BFMTV television channel, as a precautionary measure, numerous schools remained closed on Monday.

The situation remains tense.

“The night was marked by unrest and disturbances across the territory, including the islands of Pines and Mare, necessitating the intervention of substantial reinforcements. Police faced attacks, deliberate arson, and barricades,” the channel reported.
