Bulgaria and Greece, which were heavily dependent on Russian gas, will now purchase Azerbaijani gas, international expert, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza told Report, commenting on the inauguration of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) in Sofia.

Bryza noted that Azerbaijan’s role in the IGB is very important.

The IGB pipeline is important to increase competition in terms of increasing natural gas supplies, as well as competition among buyers of this gas, who are able to negotiate prices based on supply and demand, he said.
