Brazil has held talks with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, regarding the creation of a submarine fleet, which will include nuclear-powered submarines, the country’s government said on its YouTube channel.

According to Report, Rafael Grossi arrived in Rio de Janeiro to discuss the implementation of Brazil’s nuclear program with the country’s leadership. He noted that for the program to be launched, Brazil needs to follow international standards regulating the use of nuclear energy.

The development of the nuclear fleet will not only be a defense program but also a program of scientific and technological development, emphasized Admiral Marcus Sampaio Olsen, Commander of the Brazilian Navy. The project will involve several universities from the academic and business sectors, creating 60,000 jobs.
