BP plans to drill 19 wells in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of fields in 2025, Russell Morris, BP’s Vice President for Wells in the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (AGT) region, said at the IADC Drilling Caspian 2025 conference and exhibition in Baku, Report informs.
“We planned to drill 18 wells in 2024, but ended up drilling 19 wells. We plan the same volume this year. We continue to work on increasing drilling efficiency on platforms,” Morris noted.
According to him, BP actively uses modern technologies to increase well productivity.
“Everything depends on reservoir penetration. Technologies must be cost-effective and efficient to ensure maximum oil production. We also drill horizontal wells, which allows expanding the reservoir exposure zone, reducing depression, and increasing efficiency,” the vice president said.
Morris cited multilateral wells as one of the promising directions. In 2025, the company plans to drill such a well on the West Azeri platform, and another well in 2026, which will allow maximum exposure of productive formations.
