European countries must be prepared to pay the price for supporting Ukraine, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Report informs.

He noted that this is necessary to preserve the unity of the European Union and continue to support Ukraine. The Ukrainian crisis directly affects Europe, but it must be endured, since all wars end with negotiations.

“We are providing military assistance to Ukraine, but this does not mean that we are not doing our best for negotiations. Europeans must be prepared to face a protracted conflict in search of political solutions,” he stressed.

Borrell noted that countries located in the south of Europe should not show a lack of solidarity with the north in terms of energy.
