A series of blasts at a major shipbreaking yard in southern Pakistan killed at least eight workers and injured over 50.
According to the DawnNews broadcaster, citing police, over 100 people were working at the Gadani shipbreaking yard when at least eight explosions at an oil tanker occurred. The whereabouts of some 30 other workers remain unknown, but some of them reportedly were inside the ship, while others jumped into the sea.
The rescue teams from the neighboring areas arrived at the scene and delivered the injured to hospital. According to other media reports, the shipbreaking yard, located in the southwestern province of Balochistan is the world’s third largest one. Some reports presume that there may be up to 10 dead following the explosions.
